The Human Race is an event designed to inspire. It’s an insight into the journey of Dr. Amit Samarth, a rookie athlete who surprised the world when he completed the Race Across America. RAAM is the toughest cycling race out there and Dr Samarth cycled 11 days 21 hours and 11 minutes to cross the finish line! An incredible journey that we are celebrating at The Human Race.
The event will feature a powerful talk by Dr Samarth where he shares inspiration, insights and stories from his incredible accomplishment, a short film screening and a chance to interact with the man himself.
Who is Dr. Amit Samarth?
Dr. Amit Samarth is a doctor by training and an endurance athlete from Nagpur, Maharashtra. In June last year, Dr Samarth became the first Indian to successfully complete the RAAM (one of the toughest ultra-distance races in the world) on his maiden attempt, clocking a time of 11 days, 21 hours and 11 minutes. Read more about Dr Samarth and his journey.
Where did the idea come from?
We heard Dr. Amit Samarth speak at an event and were blown away by his resilient spirit. Beyond the training, the resources, the support, it takes unimaginable grit to accomplish a feat as challenging as RAAM. This is a spirit we recognise and hope to emulate on our mission to alleviate poverty in India.
We felt an alignment with Dr Samarth’s journey and the way he pushed himself to his limits. His achievements are a reflection of what is possible when we commit ourselves wholeheartedly to a goal. Learning about his journey provided us with inspiration and the encouragement to continue working towards our goal. We now want to share this inspiration with you at The Human Race.
Why is it called The Human Race?
‘The Human Race’ brings together two important elements –
a. Dr. Amit Samarth’s determination to push the limits, race forward and redefine what is possible.
b. Rang De’s belief that every human being deserves dignity, financial freedom and a chance to earn one’s livelihood with self-respect and our sincere hope to leave no man behind.
Why should I attend?
We often forget that it takes immense hard work to create an ‘overnight success’. Come listen to the behind-the-scenes story of what it takes to pull of something as incredible as completing RAAM. Most of us tend to forget that we have incredible potential and can achieve anything we really commit too. The Human Race promises to leave you pulsing with inspiration.
When and where is the event?
The event is on Sunday, 1st July, from 5pm to 6pm at IIM Bangalore.
Where does the money go?
It is a fundraiser and tickets cost Rs. 750. All proceeds from ticket sales go towards funding marginalized communities across India.
Who is supporting this event?
We owe gratitude to Optum and XLHealth, part of UnitedHealth Group — one of the largest healthcare companies in the world, our title sponsor, who are powering the event with their support. We’d also like to shout out to Bums on the Saddle, who exist to ‘inspire cycling’ for their support with outreach and Icycle for helping spread the word.
