At Rang De, over 93 % of our borrowers are women. One reason for this is the nature of self-help groups at the grassroots, which tend to be comprised entirely of women. Another reason is that in our experience, some of the grittiest, determined and enterprising borrowers that we have met during our visits to the field invariably tend to be women.
With Women’s Day just around the corner, we got to thinking, what are the qualities we admire most in women from the communities we support? When we asked our team, the answers varied from the more obvious — strength, courage, leadership — to other positive qualities that are underrated or ignored — patience, kindness or passion.
On the occasion of Women’s Day this year, we also decided to celebrate all of these qualities, these different shades and hues of the ‘empowered women’, the women of the Rang De community.
For the #ShadesofHer, the campaign we are running on the occasion of Women’s Day, we ask you to make a small contribution to the qualities in a woman you are most impressed by. This could be anything from ambition, courage, leadership to patience and strength.
The money you contribute towards a quality you like will support women in the communities that Rang De works with.
Women across the globe are enterprising, smart and independent. This year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, we want to know what you think.
A few lucky people also stand a chance to win a surprise for the donation you make!
So join us in celebrating Women’s Day 2018 and begin by make a small contribution here.
