It’s exciting times for us here at Rang De. Some pretty amazing things have been happening in the last few weeks and we wanted to share them!
We’re thrilled to announce that Rang De was featured on CNN IBN’s series India Positive as their Diwali Special! India Positive is a series that showcases stories of courage, hope, inventions, discoveries, harmony and peace. Described as ‘a micro-lending service empowering rural entrepreneurs this Diwali’, the feature received a fantastic response and we had more than 100 individuals join the Rang De Social Investor community. Here’s the story!
Rang De Co-founder Smita Ram recently returned from a field trip toManipur and has brought back heartening stories of our borrowers. “A land of inspiring women and beautiful weaves,” Manipur is breathtaking and the resolution of Manipuri women very motivating! Many of Rang De’s borrowers belong to Self-help groups that make wraps, shawls and handicrafts and sell them at local markets and various handloom fairs in the state. Another encouraging fact is that the literacy rate in Manipur is 80% and most of our borrowers can read and write English and are trained before the Rang De loans are disbursed to them!
We also wanted to share the story of a proud Rang De Social Investor with you! Rang De Brand Ambassadors Waheeda Rehman, Nagesh Kukunoor and Raghu Dixit have supported us because of their strong belief in the Rang De Model! A Social Investor since May 1st, 2012, Raghu Dixit’s first social investment helped 50 farmers and their families in Pusad, Maharashtra. Six months since and half of his money has been returned by the hard working farmers! He has decided to reinvest that money to fund more rural families in need of the money to start or develop their businesses. Raghu Dixit believes that “There can be no better way than Rang De for the young urban Indians to participate in building their own country. And it’s just a click away.” Here’s the story!
Here’s to more great times and knocking out Poverty in India!
