Meeting a Rang De borrower after they have utilised the loan is a truly unique experience. It suddenly dispels all myths about the working poor and makes one think about how much planning actually goes into a micro-business. However, people who are not able to travel and want to interact with borrowers are usually left out without much of a choice but read the evaluation stories on the Rang De website.

All this is about to change now. For the first time ever, here is an opportunity to talk, understand and get amazing insights into the lives of entrepreneurs who have taken a loan from Rang De. All this without having to move out of the comfort of your home. We internally call it the Rang De Audio evaluation where volunteers who sign up will have the ability to interact with borrowers on the phone and understand how they are doing. Having run a small pilot ourselves, we called for volunteers in our newsletter and had an amazing response from people within India and outside.

The first set of audio evaluations were started by Shantaram and Aditya — social investors who are also Rang De Mumbai Chapter members. When we listened to these ‘audio evaluations’ we learnt that they are great ‘conversations’ and a great way to connect.

You can listen to one of these conversations in Marathi. In terms of experience, it may not come anywhere close to the field trips but our hunch is this will be well received by our social investors who listen as well as those who participate in the conversations as an ‘interviewer’.

Watch out for more conversations in the upcoming weeks.
